27 years ago, some enthusiastic
Quebeckers, regarded at the time as weirdoes, put their forces together
to build the first commercial vineyard in the area of Quebec. A true
exploit because they did not have any experience in the matter, beside
the determination of their "port-standard", Mr. Gilles Rondeau, a man
of great heart, a pioneer.
They started by planting types of vines known at the time, Éona, the
Marshal Foch, Minnesota. Later, Mr. Gilles Rondeau became the assistant
of the regretted agricultural engineer Vandal, in the work carried out
at the Laval University in order to adapt to the climate of Quebec new
types of vines. Thousands of crossbreedings were made before the type
of vine more adapted appeared, which bears the name of its discoverer:
"Vandal".
In 1999, the vineyard has financial difficulties and ceases its activities
until August 2002 when Cidrerie de la Capitale Inc. buys it. After heavy
work, this one succeeds in collecting some 40 000 pounds of grape which,
vinified by the oenologist Jorj Radu, joint owner, gave wines of exceptional
quality. These wines are available in our store on the spot.
In 2003, Cidrerie de la Capitale Inc. become meanwhile Vignoble Bourg
Royal Inc, plants in 3000 young vines (red Sabrevois), 1000 apple trees,
100 pear trees and some plum trees.
During the year 2004, we discover, in the old experimental field of
the vineyard, 15 seedlings of a unique type of vine (fruit of the work
of the same J.O.Vandal) producing blue grapes which, thanks to the assistance
of the Office of the National Capital, will be multiplied and put in
production few years from here.
At the end of September 2007, we collected our first apples and
pears which will enter in 2008 in the manufacture of our ciders.
